Who is the PA Blue Thunder? The Blue Thunder Basketball Club organizes and promotes instructional & competitive girls basketball teams in Central Pennsylvania. We stress teaching fundamentals and individual player development as well as focus on developing the team aspect of the game.
Why should parents consider Blue Thunder Basketball Club? The PA Blue Thunder is a non-profit organization that does more than teach basketball. Our goal is to provide our members with a positive experience in a friendly, team-oriented environment from which they are taught sportsmanship, leadership, character and responsibility. Through basketball, we offer our members the opportunity to learn, have fun and grow as both players and individuals.
How does my daughter get on a Blue Thunder team? Register and come to the tryouts. Blue Thunder has open tryout sessions in the middle of November and also in late January or early February. Our tryouts are heavily advertised in local papers and at numerous local sports facilities. If you missed the early tryout, please be sure to make the second. Our future tryout dates will also be posted on this website. For prospective players that missed the tryouts, please call Doug Roberts at (814) 255-7174.
How many teams are there? In 2009, Blue Thunder will have approximately 9-10 teams in age groups ranging from U-11 to U-16.
What age group am I in? Click link for AAU Age Calculator on this page to determine your child’s eligibility.
How much does AAU cost? The cost will vary depending on the organization, number of tournaments played, distance traveled, etc. You should inquire with the coaches about the previous year’s cost per player in order to get an accurate estimate as to the total.
How much time is involved with AAU? This will vary from team to team depending on the coach. Most coaches will have 1-2 practices during the week from March through July. Blue Thunder teams will usually play in 5 to 8 tournaments on weekends.
